Junior & youth

Kids & youth electric dirt bikes

Buy for the rider, not the birthday. Age ranges sell bikes; inseam and seat height decide whether a child can actually hold one up — and that is what determines whether they enjoy the first ride or never ask for a second.

Sizing by rider height

Start here. Find your child's height, then check the inseam against the seat height — they should be able to get their feet down and hold the bike upright unaided at a standstill.

Junior electric dirt bikes by rider height, inseam, seat height and top speed
Model Rider height Inseam Seat Weight Top speed Price
Talaria JR-12 3 ft 0 in – 3 ft 9 in (91–114 cm) about 18 in or more, so both feet reach the ground flat at a stop 17.7 in 24 lb 10 mph $1,015
Talaria JR-16 3 ft 7 in – 4 ft 4 in (109–132 cm) about 20 in or more for flat feet at a stop 19.7 in 33 lb 10 mph $1,397
Sur-Ron Hyper Bee 4 ft 6 in – 5 ft 4 in (137–163 cm) about 27 in or more, which most riders over 4 ft 6 in will clear easily 26.9 in 86 lb 40 mph $3,000
Talaria X3 Mini 4 ft 6 in – 5 ft 4 in (137–163 cm) about 30 in or more to get the balls of both feet down 30.3 in 115 lb 40 mph $2,999

Note the ordering. Seat height and top speed do not rank together on this range. The Sur-Ron Hyper Bee has the lowest seat here at 26.9 in and makes 8 kW — the same peak output as a full adult Light Bee X. A low seat does not mean a gentle bike.

Two very different classes of machine

Speed-limited first bikes — 10 mph

The JR-12 and JR-16 are genuine children's bikes: 17.7 in and 19.7 in seats, 24 lb and 33 lb, limited to 10 mph. Light enough for an adult to carry back when they park it in a hedge, slow enough to learn balance and throttle on grass.

These suit roughly 3 to 9 years old. The step between them is a size upgrade first and a power upgrade second — the JR-16 gets bigger 16 in wheels that roll over ruts which stop a 12 in machine dead.

Real motorcycles at a smaller scale — 40 mph

The X3 Mini and Hyper Bee both reach 40 mph. That is motorcycle speed, and the scaled chassis does not change it. Both need full gear, supervised progression and somewhere legal to ride.

The X3 Mini is the more forgiving of the two — 4.2 kW on a 30.3 in seat. The Hyper Bee has a much lower 26.9 in seat but nearly twice the power, and suits a smaller rider who already knows what they are doing.

Frequently asked questions

What size electric dirt bike does my child need?
Fit the rider, not the birthday. Sit the child on the bike: if they can hold it upright unaided and get their feet down, it fits. If they are on tiptoes, it is too big — a child who cannot hold the bike up will drop it, get frightened, and lose a season of enthusiasm. Seat height and inseam decide this, and age is only a rough guide.
What is a good electric dirt bike for a 10 year old?
Most 10-year-olds are somewhere between a Talaria JR-16 and a Talaria X3 Mini, and the deciding factor is height rather than age. Measure their inseam and compare it to the seat height: the JR-16 sits at 19.7 in and the X3 Mini at 30.3 in, so there is a large gap between them and children of the same age often land on different sides of it.
How fast do kids electric dirt bikes go?
It varies enormously across this range and matters more than any other spec. The JR-12 and JR-16 are speed-limited to 10 mph, which is appropriate for a young child on grass. The X3 Mini and Hyper Bee both reach 40 mph, which is genuine motorcycle speed regardless of the wheel size — those two need the same gear, supervision and progression as an adult machine.
Is the Sur-Ron Hyper Bee a beginner bike?
No, despite having the lowest seat we sell at 26.9 in. The Hyper Bee makes 8 kW, the same peak output as an adult Light Bee X, in an 86 lb chassis. The low seat suits a smaller rider who already has throttle discipline — it is a small bike for a capable rider, not an easy bike for a new one.
Can kids ride these on the road or in a park?
No. These are electric off-road motorcycles, not bicycles, and they are not street legal. They are for private property with the owner's permission and for designated OHV areas. Many OHV areas set their own minimum ages and require adult supervision, so check before you travel.
What safety gear does a child need?
A properly fitted helmet is the minimum on every machine here, including the 10 mph ones. Add goggles, gloves, boots that cover the ankle, and knee protection. On the X3 Mini and Hyper Bee, which reach 40 mph, treat a chest protector as standard rather than optional.
